John Chan 1943 - 1995
Born in Kuming, China in 1943, John Chan came to the United States to pursue his education, earning a B.S. in Design from the University of Michigan. New York City was John’s home through much of the 1970’s and 80’s where he flourished after his very first professional photo assignment for Vogue Magazine.
His uncanny and highly imaginative sense for design coupled with pre-digital technical virtuosity made John Chan one of the most important photomontage artists of the 20th century.
